    Hi everyone,

Turned on BBC Breakfast TV this morning for news and caught the last bit of an interview with a young widow who was discussing a peer group called W A Y, Widowed and Young. From what I can gather it supports, in various ways, those who are bereaved and are under fifty years old. Just thought this info may be of help to some of you, I’m aware it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s perhaps worth a look.

    I’m a wrinkly so I’ll be barred!

    Hi Joanie,
    Thanks for this.
There is a link to WAY on the MW Resources page, and also a link to WAY UP, which is the affiliated site for people over 50.
    Best wishes,
    Kate

    Hello Kate,

Oops! I’m sorry for putting in my two-penneth.

You have jogged my memory though as I did look at the resources page this time last year when when I was trying not to feel so sorry for myself and started reading all I could in the hope to become stronger and get through.

My memory seems to have failed me many times on this journey but certain things I wish I could forget are there stil, in sharp focus.

    Thank you again.

    Hi Joanie,
    No apologies necessary!
I don’t think there should be age restrictions, because it alienates people who are already feeling lost and alone.
    Take care of yourself,
    Kate x

    Hi Joanne,

I have been a member of WayUp since it started. I was too old for Way when I lost my husband. I think the age restriction is something to do with their charitable status.

WAY & WayUp work very well alongside MW and Kate very kindly puts info about both on her site.

Through WayUp we organise meets all over the UK. Can I suggest you look us up.

    Take care

    Hello Jenny,

Thank you for your message and the information therein. I have now looked at the WayUp site and it seems so positive I will certainly think about it. I don’t drive so am a bit restricted travelling but I get about locally by bus and further afield by train when possible, though it takes a bit of forward planning.

Please don’t apologise about the name thing, it’s of no consequence, in fact I have always preferred Joanne to my own name.

    Best wishes

    Hi Joanie,

Lack of transport to WayUp meets needn’t be a problem; most of us who drive are happy to offer lifts to those who don’t. I often have a car full when I go to the various lunches, dinners etc.

I am also Jenny K on WayUp so look me up when you join - we have an internal mail system called Tent Mail.

Although I am grateful to WayUp for easing me back into a social life and introducing me to friends who really ‘get it’ I will be eternally grateful to Kate Boydell for starting and continuing to fund Merry Widow. I credit her and all my cyber friends here over the years for getting me through what was the worst period of my life.
