As told to me last night
Last night I attended a PCC meeting at our church. I have just been asked to become the secretary and was minding my own business doing the minutes. There was a break during the meeting and one of the 'more senior' members, himself a widower, came over to me and asked, very confidentially, did I have a Burberry raincoat. I said I did. He expressed his disappointment, saying that he had one of his late wife's, complete with wool warmer attached, which he wanted to find a good home for. I was really touched , and thanked him for the offer, whereupon he said, 'I thought it would be ideal for you, it's just your size - a 16.'
I am an 8/10.........................
Is it any wonder I have stress?
And the minutes have gone for a burton too!
Lots of love
Laraine x
Actually I an supposed to be typing them out now but remembered ths tale and decided to post here instead.

Re: As told to me last night
Whoops Laraine, men are absolutely hopeless aren't they. Genuinly don't seem to have a clue about these sort of things. I'm sure he had no idea what he was implying, bless him. Actually I rather think he was probably working on an age analogy rather than size (might make you feel a bit better to think of it like that!) (((hugs either way.)))
Much love Cas xx

Re: As told to me last night
Wow the people you mix with! When will it all end. What a lovely thought from the man concerned but like Cas said they generally dont have much idea with the size thing do they. I would have paid good money to see your face when he said it though. My boss the other week went the opposite way, he told me to eat more as i was only a size 6 ! Eh i'm a size 10 too but if i carry on eating these chocolate chip cookies i'm going to be a 16 so if you see that man again will you tell him you have found a good home for it.

Re: As told to me last night
Sorry Laraine...I know I shouldn't laugh but afraid I have just nearly fallen of the sofa.......apologies but it did make me giggle.
Reminds me of just after John died when a male neighbour who had just lost his wife called to offer his condolences and asked me if I would go for a meal with him.....I declined politely and he told me it was a shame because they were offering 2 for 1 and it was a waste to go on his own!! I would add that he was a George Clooney look alike but then I doubt you would believe me!!!!!

Re: As told to me last night
Actually Laraine, I was trying to imply that he thought you looked 16 years old not size 16. That joke obviously fell flat on it's face though. Never mind, I never was good at jokes, my Bob would have thought of a really witty comeback though, rolled off his toungue they did. Really miss that now.

Oh Cas,
I see what you mean, I've told you I am stressed out. I thought you meant he was comparing me to his wife!!
Will have to take a few weeks off work perhaps!!
You did make me laugh though, so you have cheered me up - and don't put yourself down, I 've told you before you should write a book, it would be a best seller.
Lots of love Laraine x

Re: As told to me last night
Hey girls, according to M&S;, the 'average' size is 16. Now I know some ladies that 16 can vary between 14 and 18, and 'loose-fit' is fashionable also, so in theory a 12 might fit a 16?
In any case, what is important is your own inner perception of beauty. My late wife in common with a lot of other ladies increased her size following the birth of our 2 kids - she was still super sexy to me. When she was really ill she lost half her body-weight, but still remained so beautiful to me, she really was my partner for life, perfect for me.
So at the end of the day I've come to the conclusion that size doesn't matter (no lady jokes please!!!) and just be comfortable and confident as you are. Your hubbies probably thought as I do about my wife, so take comfort from the fact that you were the sexiest girl they would have wanted. To us blokes you are all wonderful in your own individual way.

Re: As told to me last night
But Amrit, isn't all that a myth put about by men who for years have been telling us that 4 inches is really 8 inches?

Laraine,
I couldn't possibly comment since I've never had to resort to myths.

Re: As told to me last night
Linda, stupid me,I should have asked him 'why' he thought I was a size 16. (When will I learn?)
Spent the latter half of the meeting trying not to laugh though.
Amrit, I shouldn't worry; they do say that the best things come in small packages.....

Re: As told to me last night
Hi Laraine Just a thought - When he married his wife, she was likely the same size as you . In all the years and all the pounds lost and gained, when he looked at her he still saw that girl.
Cliff changed just with getting older, bloated with drugs, rake like with illness - by my image of him is still roughly how he was when we said I Do. So when he saw a size 16 on the label, may be what he thought that's what you were. Cos he still thought she was the equivalent of 8/10.
Any way, skinny moo - us big girls don't need to wear our coats until the bitter winds blow - we have our own insulation.
Take Care Lesley

Life's can't be all that bad then!
