Well, very possibly, but death tends to make you slightly unhinged, and it’s nice to be able to talk to somebody who might show a bit of understanding, rather than strapping you into restraints and calling for an ambulance.
I have spent the last four years answering e-mails from many hundreds of bereaved people, young and old. I became rather disillusioned with the notion that drugs or counselling are the only options open to people suffering a traumatic loss, and determined to find a more practical, and positive solution.
My philosophy is simple; that positive energy, empathy and practical advice are far more effective that passive nodding, or Prozac. I believe in a holistic approach to dealing with grief, but don’t be put off by that word, because I’m not some New Age loon with a head full of lentils and a pocket full of crystals, I have just realised that mind, body and spirit have to be treated together, and not as separate entities. If you’re depressed then your immune system will be weakened, but improving your diet and introducing regular exercise and relaxation techniques will restore the balance, more quickly and safely than chemical stabilisers, and there will be no side-effects or issue of dependency.
So, what exactly is it that I do?
You may have heard of a life coach - well, I’m a death coach.
I am a qualified practitioner of Meridian Energy Therapy, Holistic Stress Management, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. My aim is to get you through your grief and return you to society as a happy, balanced, fully functioning individual in a short a time as possible, by identifying your own resources and using them to provide a successful coping strategy.
There is a spark of hope in even the most desperate and disillusioned person, and my aim is to help those in darkness to see a way forward into a happier, brighter future. My treatment rooms are in South Devon, but I also offer telephone consultations.
