Re: Tax Credits
OHHHH Lorraine, you're in for a real treat with the lovely Tax Credit folk. Andy rose from the dead this week, he's 'disabled' now after being deceased on their database?! Suffice to say I will help you if you need anything. Equip yourself with choc, dispensible plates to smash, more choc, tea/coffee( very strong), matches and bin to burn all the envelopes which can't be recycled but which will clog up your other bin, we have many colours of bin here in n ireland!, suppose you're the same? Oh, and don't expect to be able to get through on the 'hot 'line number HA! this is when you get your strong tea and supplies ready for the never ending music whilst on hold.
As you will have guessed I am somewhat of an authority on said people and trying to be light-hearted but honestly cried and sobbed some of my worst after dealing with them and all things TAX.
Good luck my friend and fear not, I and no doubt others will be here to comfort and sooth your furrowed brow :)

Re: Tax Credits
Hi both, Sorry to be controversial, but I found the tax credit people wonderful and efficient to deal with. Without my monthly payments I would really struggle so can't think of a bad word to say against them. Kim

Re: Tax Credits
I'm glad Kim's experience has been happier than ours Lorraine! I informed the Tax Credits folk way back in Jan. within a fortnight of my husband's death. For some reason as well as noting that he had died they removed my youngest children, twins of 12, from the system. That was sorted out eventually and I thought everything was going ahead as promised, but then had a letter with an award notice, stating the date of my husband's death. Enclosed in the same envelope was a form with a declaration to sign and a box for me and a box for D. especially for the signatures! I did phone up and speak to an adviser and she told me that they didn't have a form without the box for the deceased person... but they did understand that my husband wouldn't be able to sign it!

Re: Tax Credits
Hi Lorraine, I had a similar experience to you, it was just around the time of my husbands first anniversary when I was feeling particularily low. It was quite a shock to receive post with his name on and also requesting his signature, I just did not need that extra stress. It took many phone calls and several days later before I managed to speak to a human voice. In fairness she was extremely apologetic and helpful so I did get it all sorted eventually. Mind you I still cant make much sense of it and dread these big white envelopes appearing in the post. Good luck Lorraine, keep your chin up best wishes Annie

Re: Tax Credits
tax credits are a night mare!...they have got mine all wrong again and my payments have suddenly massively decreased, it seems that they pay bereavment benefit with one hand then take away tax credits with the other.its really frustrating and I hate dealing with it all on the phone. To be honest I think Ive got a mail phobia, i hate seeing letters on the mat...they are always going to be headache inducing.

My father died 23 years ago and the Prudential is still sending letters to my dad to my mum. We been on the phone and wrote to them every year but they still send a letter every year.

Re: Tax Credits
Dear Lorraine
It took me 6 months to get the tax credits sorted out, I had to invove my MP in the end he soon got things moving. But just when I thought it was all ok they sent me through a letter addressed to my husband I was so angry with them. It dosen't usually upset me if I receive post for him, but with all the trouble I did have with these people supposed to be our goverment it really was like they were taking the p888 out of me for contacting my MP. Good luck if you do have any problems get intouch with your MP mine was brilliant. take care MD x

Re: Tax Credits
Result !
Got put through to a really helpful man and he took all the information over the phone, sorted me out and he kept apologising for the computer generated letters.
I'll wait and see what the amended tax credit letter says when it comes in.
At least that's one less job off the "to do" pile on the bedroom floor !!!
Thanks everybody for all the replies
