Life insurance
Hello this is a bit of a random one!!

Without going into depth. My husband died 14 months ago, the life insurance to date havent come up with a decision (however they tell me i will get a decision by this Friday) they have requested his inquest notes etc.

Has anyone else out there had a similiar problem. I am at my wits end with this not knowing.

Thanks

Re: Life insurance
I'm so worried for myself now! Mine hasnt paid out because there is a fiscal thing going on in Scotland where he died and an inquest in England. I thought 2 months seemed a long time to wait and I am worried about the mortgage which I cannot afford on my part time earnings. Hubs died in a road traffic accident which didnt involve anyone else and had witnesses, so i dont know what the problem is. Glad your decision is coming soon and hope its the right one for you. xx

Re: Life insurance
Hi Sara,

Sadly I remember being told by someone when M died that these companies look for any loophole to avoid settlement and sure enough they turned out to be correct. I put it in the hands of my solicitor as at the time I was too vulnerable to deal with the big guns. They don't appear to have any inkling about how distressing this all is-I know they are dealing with substantial amounts of money here so have to be certain but daer me! Hope it all comes right,

Hi Sara

I am in Australia so the laws as such may be different but I find myself in a situation (5 months on) where the trustee doesn't agree with the ruling of the insurance company. Now they are arguing between myself and I just have to sit and wait ...... Its appalling and I acknowledge that it has taken up far too much of my mental and emotional energy.

Do ask lots of questions and write everything down that you are told.

I too am at my wits end - literally. Now I have been told that I need to sit back and allow the process to take place and have faith!!!!!

Let us know how you get on.

Edwina

Dear Sara,

14 months is too long - they are dragging their heels and you need to find a way to put a stop to this.

1. Ring them every day - may be even twice a day and insist upon their response.

2. Phone the financial ombudsman (they have a website) and ask their advice. They have a procedure if you need to fight the outcome.

3. Try not to panic - there are rules which the financial ombudsman will follow but unless it was a case of reckless non-disclosure (such as lying on the form about a smoking habit) then the insurance company will make a payment.

You have my sympathy - waiting for the decision from a life insurance company is cruel torture & they should not have kept you waiting so long

Re: Life insurance
P.S. I found the name of an experienced solicitor in this field on the internet - he is called Michael Vine (put it straight into google). He fought and won the case of a widow whose claim had been voided - there was a newspaper article on the internet. I contacted him about my case and he phoned me. He was very honest and said that there would be little he could do for me (reckless non-disclosure) but he may be able to help you. He also said that the Financial Ombudsman was very busy at the moment and that there were delays in cases being considered (mine has been in the queue for about nine months but has just been allocated to a case worker today)

Re: Life insurance
Thanks every1 that advice was brilliant. I'm still waiting but at least I know i am not the only one.

It seems so sick that they will take your money no questions asked but when it comes down they would quite happily rob you.

Slowly going mad is something I am getting used to but going mad with mortage paid would be a lot easier.

Cheers. I will keep you informed!!
